Wildbase + Esplanade Tour

Explore the outdoors with Victoria Esplanade, Palmy’s premier park. The Esplanade boasts 26ha of bush walks, bird aviaries, bike tracks, playgrounds, a miniature railway and the stunning Dugald MacKenzie Rose Gardens.

The esplanade is also home to the Central Energy Trust Wildbase Recovery, a specialist centre providing shelter and care for native wildlife following treatment at Massey’s Wildbase Hospital. The centre houses tuatara, native birds and endangered species and promotes conservation and preservation.

Te Apiti, Te Ahua a Turanga + CN Integrated Freight Hub Tour

Learn how the city has preserved the precious taonga of Te Āpiti – Manawatū Gorge and restored the culturally and ecologically significant destination. The major infrastructure project has been designed with shared use tracks linking to key sites and provides connections to Te Apiti, Gorge Walkway, and Parahaki Island.

After exploring Te Āpiti and Te Ahua a Turanga, you’ll learn more about Papaioea’s regional freight hub. KiwiRail is progressing plans for a high-tech, intermodal freight hub which will help grow Palmerston North’s role as a critical freight distribution centre for the lower North Island.

Food HQ + Fonterra Global Research Centre Tour

For all foodies, FoodHQ is the place to be. Food HQ is on a mission to grow food and beverage innovation by connecting New Zealand’s smartest food science minds. The city’s connection between science and food dates back to its strong ag science roots. Today, Palmy is home to 2,400 food scientists and researchers.

Continue your food tech journey with a tour of Fonterra’s Global Research Centre – a destination dedicated to innovation and food expertise. The research centre is one of the largest of its kind globally. The centre is home to hundreds of patents — and cheeses.

Defence Tour - Linton (Army)

Get a glimpse of the army in action at Linton Military Camp. Linton is the main operational hub of the New Zealand Army and the biggest base in the country. It is home to over 3,000 military personnel spanning engineers, logistics, infantry, and armour. Discover the might of the defence force on their home turf.

Ready to relax and unwind? If you’re ready for a nature break head out to the Herb Farm. The Herb Farm creates 100% natural skincare and health products - free of synthetics and chemical nasties. The Herb Farm has a retail shop, small product manufacturing factory and an onsite café in a tranquil garden setting.

A tour of Palmy wouldn’t be complete without a nod to one of New Zealand’s top gardens, Greenhaugh. A forty-year project in the making surrounded by a 19th-century colonial homestead, this garden was given a six-star rating with the New Zealand Gardens Trust, the highest recognition the trust gives out.
