Max is a husband, father, farmer and community leader. He is committed to whanau, enjoys exploring the great outdoors and meeting new people. He also loves a challenge.
For almost nine years, Max has been Ōtorohanga District’s Mayor and his passion for enabling youth saw him become the Chair of the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs in 2017. In 2018, as Chair he signed a Memorandum of Understanding together with Central Government Ministers. This MOU acknowledges better employment outcomes for rangitahi can be achieved by working together.
Under his leadership, a partnership was formed with the Ministry of Social Development to create the Community Resilience Programme. This extremely successful programme has been described as an exemplar of Local Government and Central Government collaboration.
Max believes social wellbeing is significant for the future of local government. He is committed to ensuring local voices tackle local issues.
